Almost every business we meet says they have backups. Far fewer have ever tested restoring from them — and a backup you cannot restore is just a comforting illusion.
Why backups silently fail
- The backup job quietly stopped working months ago and nobody noticed.
- It was backing up the wrong folder, or missing a critical system.
- The only copy lived on the same network ransomware encrypted.
- The restore takes so long the business is effectively down for days.
What a real backup strategy looks like
The classic 3-2-1 rule still holds: at least 3 copies of your data, on 2 different types of media, with 1 copy off-site. Add a modern twist: at least one copy that is immutable — it cannot be altered or deleted, even by an attacker with admin access.
The part everyone skips
Test the restore. Regularly. A scheduled test restore is the only way to know your backups work and to measure how long recovery actually takes. Techtrix builds and test backup systems for clients so “we have backups” becomes “we are genuinely recoverable.” It is core to proactive cybersecurity.
